The Pearson house was designed by Maurice for high-school friend, Mark Pearson. Since Maurice had previously done two remodels for Mark, he received a blank slate from Mark for this new home: “a killer swimming pool, and aquarium, and shingles on the exterior (like the homes designed by Robert Stearns on the east coast)” were the only conditions. A vineyard was planted on an adjoining conservation easement, then the windows in the house were aligned to view the vineyard. All bedrooms have views to the valley. The kitchen island slides and converts into a bar for parties. The owner’s German Shepherd dogs enjoy some luxurious customized accommodations in the home that are too indulgent to put into writing.

"The right architect can be a homeowner's best friend. His or her knowledge of energy use, building materials, and labor costs can save you more than enough money to cover their fee, and an original, well designed house — one that is strong, functional, and responsive to its site — is a daily joy as well as a good investment."
